Day 1 & 2: San Francisco exploring

After our 11 hour flight we landed only to discover Jeremy's bag didn't make the flight! Luckily there was another flight from London landing that evening and it was on that. So after a quick cab journey we arrived at our airbnb we are staying in, freshened up and then made our way out for some exploring. I love staying in airbnb's as you are staying in someone else's apartment most of the time, so you really feel like you are a local. The place we are staying is in a neighbourhood called Dogpatch which was mostly the industrial area. It is now becoming more hipster with some cool cafes and bars around.

Public transport is really good, so we hopped on a tram (or the muni as it's called here) about 5 mins walk from us and within 20 mins we were in the center of town.
We checked out the financial district for a bit, and generally just wondered around, but then jetlag started kicking in. So after a quick dinner at Panda express, which has pretty good Chinese food, we went home to wait for Jeremy's bag and crash out.

Jetlag is no joke and we are up again at 4am and then 6am. Eventually we decided sleep isn't going to happen so we got up and started the day.
First up was a visit to Coit tower which is on Telegraph hill. You have to climb 400 steps to get to it, but the views of SF are worth it. The climb itself is pretty cool and your work out for the day, taking you through some really nice houses, I could definitely live in them. And the views from the steps on the way up are quite good too.

First view of Golden Gate bridge!
After that we wondered through little Italy and China Town and then caught a cable car to Fishermans wharf. SF has kept all the old school public transport which is really cool. The cable car is so much fun to drive on as you can hang off the side while it's going.

Fisherman's wharf is an area with some restaurants, shops and street performers and is on the water. We stopped off for some fish tacos and drinks in the sun which was just heavenly. It's pretty clear that we are the tourists because while walking around town we are the only ones in shorts and flip flops because it's about 20 degrees. All the locals are dressed for winter in boots and coats. I guess living in London has made us so used to the cold, any sun and we are boiling!

With our bellies full we headed back via cable car downtown. We then thought we would go buy some bits to make dinner at home. We found a Trader Joe's (which is similar to Whole Foods) that looked like it was on our way home. (Turns out it was a bit further than we thought, by the time we got there I thought my feet were going to fall off!) We walked there, got some bits for dinner and then came back to our place.
The apartment we staying in has a rooftop terrace, so we took some snacks and wine up there and watched the sunset. After all that all we ended up crashing on the couch, and didn't even make the dinner we walked miles to get :) But we were asleep by about 9pm, and ready for the next day which was also Jeremy's birthday!
